The HMRC Cardiff project comprises a 240 000sqft CAT B fit out from the new build shell and CAT A fit out completed by Sir Robert McAlpine in November 2019.

Project Background
In 2017 6 Central Square, Cardiff embarked on a redevelopment which included a new headquarters for BBC Wales, general office development and a transport interchange.
The building comprising of 265,000 sq ft was pre-let to HRMC as part of their plan to relocate staff from their Llanishen, Cardiff office to what was to become a central hub for HMRC in Wales. In September 2018 the building was cleared and handed over to HMRC who planned to start the fit out in January 2020.
Project Scope
Scope of works include cellular and open plan office space across 11 floors, including a specialist meeting/ conference centre at first floor. At ground floor there will be a new café/ dining space for the building occupants.
A total of 9,500 Commscope Cat 6A FFTP cables were installed to field devices. A total of 564 CommScope Cat 6A FFTP cables were installed for Backbone and interlinks, with a full diverse OS2 24 core fibre optic back bone installed, a total of 696 cores across all 11 floors. An FIS fibre and copper back bone was installed for tier 3 security. 216 cores of OM4 Commscope fibre was deployed with a further 432 CommScope Cat 6a FFTP cables. There was a total of 67 data cabinets installed across the project, varying in sizes, from 47U 800×1000 to 15U Apex Safe cabinets, weighing 225kg. A total combined 7890 Commscope category 6A patch leads were supplied as part of the package.
Vision for the Project
The purpose of the project is to create a new collaborative hub of International office standard, with a regional aesthetic, serving as the new central office for the HMRC in Wales.
