Woolgate Exchange is a landmark headquarters building located in the heart of the City of London, occupying a prominent 1.67-acre freehold site. Strategically positioned between two major underground stations; Moorgate and Bank, it offers exceptional connectivity and access within one of the world’s leading financial districts.
The building provides approximately 350,000 sq ft of high-quality office accommodation, arranged across three basement levels, a ground floor, and eight upper storeys. Its internal layout is organised around four distinct cores, offering flexibility for a range of tenant configurations and efficient space utilisation.
As a premium commercial development, Woolgate Exchange plays a significant role in the capital’s office market. Its design and scale reflect the demands of modern corporate occupiers, with a focus on functionality, prestige, and long-term value. The building is home to a diverse mix of tenants and continues to serve as a key destination for businesses seeking a central London headquarters presence.
This project involved the comprehensive installation of a structured cabling and fibre network infrastructure to support a modern commercial environment. Works were delivered across multiple floors and building systems, encompassing core communications infrastructure, tenant connectivity, and key service integrations such as CCTV, Wi-Fi, access control, and building management systems.
The installation included both single and multi-mode fibre networks, high-performance copper cabling, and the configuration of multiple comms rooms to meet the demands of a high-density office setting. The solution was tailored to support present-day data and connectivity needs, while offering scalability for future upgrades.
The primary objective was to design and install a resilient, high-capacity network infrastructure to support the tenant’s operational requirements. This included enabling seamless connectivity between MER, SER, and distribution cabinets, integrating essential systems such as Wi-Fi and CCTV, and ensuring all installations adhered to performance and durability standards suited to a premium office environment.
Special attention was placed on flexibility, system integration, and clean cable management to support both immediate usability and long-term maintenance.
Fibre Infrastructure:
Multi-mode OM4 (144 cores over 3,100m) installed for high-speed backbone connectivity between MER/SER and distribution cabinets.
Single-mode OS2 (328 cores over 7,000m) used to connect tenant infrastructure between SERs and risers/floors, terminated within dedicated enclosures.
Copper Cabling:
Over 35,000 metres of CAT 6A cable installed.
More than 815 data outlets configured, with cables presented on single or dual faceplates.
Secondary containment included conduit and cladded back boxes for durability and protection.
Comms Rooms:
MER and SER cabinets: 800x800mm, 42U.
Distribution cabinets: 600x600mm, 32U.
Vertical cabling secured using Velcro metal ties for safe and clean cable management.
System-Specific Cabling:
CCTV: CAT 6A cabling routed to cladded data boxes adjacent to each unit.
Wi-Fi (WAPs): Dual CAT 6A cables installed to cladding boxes near each access point.
BMS: Data outlets presented on DIN rail brackets, depending on equipment requirements.
Access and Lighting Control: Installed on single or dual outlets within galvanised conduit and cladding enclosures.
External Connectivity:
Weatherproof transition boxes used to extend internal CAT 6A cabling to external areas such as rooftops and terraces.
Containment and Cable Management:
Full containment systems installed, including trays, baskets, conduits, glands, tubes, and boxes for secure routing throughout the site.
The project was delivered to a high standard, resulting in a fully operational and future-ready network infrastructure. The structured cabling solution provides robust and reliable connectivity across all required systems, with integration points for data, security, building control, and wireless access.
By combining precision installation with quality containment and component selection, the system meets the performance needs of a modern office environment while allowing for straightforward scalability and maintenance. The successful delivery reflects strong planning, technical knowledge, and a clear understanding of the client’s operational priorities.
